Mickey delivered sacks of burgers and fries to the wooden reel outside Luna’s dock. The lunch whistle blew. Hand trucks dropped with metallic clatter, forklifts wheezed to a halt. The warmer weather freeing them from gathering around a barrel fire or huddling inside a truck, the men used crates as tabletops. Mickey stepped aside as they collected their food or snapped open their lunch pails. Then he headed back toward the office.

“Mickey.”

He turned.

“What’s on your mind?” Jano asked. “You’re off in space.”

Mickey shrugged.

“Where’s the napkins?”

“I—”

Jano laughed. “Joking, Mick. We look like we need napkins?”

Little Moon cradled cans of cold Budweiser. He said, “Hey, Yoo-Hoo. Join.”

Mickey said no.
